A Natural Cold Remedy
Fire Cider is a traditional herbal tonic which utilizes the benefits of apple cider vinegar along with the healing powers of various plants (onion and ginger for inflammation, horseradish as an antibacterial decongestant, etc.)
One lovely thing about this recipe is that you don’t have to follow any one specific recipe exactly, which means you are free to do your own research on the ingredients you would like to include as well as some of your own trial and error. I am providing you with my own personal recipe in case you would like to make some yourself or use it to compare and contrast with other’s recipes.
Fire Cider Ingredients (per approximately one 24oz jar)
1/4 cup chopped* ginger
1/4 cup chopped* horseradish
1-2 sprig(s) rosemary
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 jalapeño
1/4 lemon
1/4 onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp tumeric
1 tsp cayenne
Honey to taste
2 cups apple cider vinegar (enough to cover)
*chopped ingredients can also be grated to create a stronger, more flavorful cider
Fire Cider Instructions
Add all of your prepared ingredients (except for the honey) to a large jar and cover with the apple cider vinegar.
Shake once daily to mix ingredients and store in a cool dim place.
Steep for 28 days.
After at least 28 days, strain the cider into a clean jar, and add honey to taste if desired.
Take roughly 1 tablespoon daily or only when sick, can be taken alone, mixed into a drink or used as a dressing. (I personally like to begin my mornings with this in the winter for a little extra jump start to my metabolism.)
